High blood pressure, also called hypertension, is a health disorder in which the pressure of circulating blood pushing against the arterial walls remains persistently above the normal level. It is frequently described as a “silent threat” because it may develop without obvious warning signs, yet it greatly raises the likelihood of severe medical complications such as cardiac illness, brain stroke, and renal failure. Ideal blood pressure generally stays below 120/80 mm Hg, whereas a slightly raised level ranges from 120–129/80 mm Hg. Stage 1 hypertension occurs when readings fall between 130–139/80–89 mm Hg, while Stage 2 hypertension is diagnosed when measurements reach 140/90 mm Hg or more. Multiple elements influence the occurrence of this condition, including inherited traits, increasing age, and everyday habits. Having relatives with high blood pressure can heighten susceptibility.
